Short, simple and sharp

I don’t know if it’s me or what but as I get older I tend to shy away from the “happening” celebrations and partying till the cows come home, tucked into bed and snoring.

Celebrations like tonight’s are more my cup of tea. I guess I’m getting uncle-ed.

*Shrug*

Another REPC is done and dusted.

Hard to imagine I actually survived here long enough to go through 2 REPCs. I must say this year’s REPC went flawlessly, there were some teething problems, some touch and go situations, some tempers flaired but all in all, flawlessly.

I am actually proud of this event to the point of bragging. :p Can’t help it considering the hell last year. From a 2 hour waiting time to a max of 15mins. A personal observation: I’ve grown as a PM once again. Seems to me that each REPC makes me grow.

Wonder what next year’s REPC holds in store.

Honestly, I do not understand my personal fascination with Avril. Even with her first album I knew she’s nothing but a pop princess. Yet, her albums are like the Dark Side, before you know it, you’re knee-deep in it and a salve to the Emperor for all time!

This album is worse than any of her pervious, from her previous, from her first single ‘Girlfriend’ it screamed ‘POP’ from the mountain-tops. And don’t get me started on the music video, really?! Blonde pink hair?! Bouncing Around like some blonde cheerleader?! Like really?! And she dares proclaim herself a punk?! Really?! Still there is something about the tracks that just draws you in and traps you inside.

If anything, these are tracks perfect for break-up situations. Songs that talk about picking up the pieces and living life again. Of course; there is the all familiar emo-ballet, this is a pop album after all. In ‘When You’re Gone’, we have this album’s ‘I’m With You’.

Clearly the beginning of the end for this Pop Princess. ‘Nuff said.

So the cliff notes version is that I’ve had a hellish fortnight dealing with work stuff and I’ve finally had ENOUGH! After a melodramatic weekend, one that’s more than qualified for an episode of Gossip Girl, I’m finally on a week long break (still had to go back to work for 2 days, but ah well).

As I type this, I’m sitting in Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal waiting to board my “vessell of bliss”. I’ll be posting as much updates as I can during my trip so keep watching this channel!

Ok I still got network so UPDATE…

At the risk of sounding like some country bumpkin whose been buried under a mountain named “work” I must say since the last time I’ve been on a ferry, they’re a lot nicer!

I even get to catch some channel 8 drama and yes a touch of patriotism was thrown in when they played ‘Count On Me Singapore’ by this year’s Singapore Idol hopefuls. Yes Gracia I saw you, shout out to ya.

The ice cream song girl with the ice cream song.

Yes, I’m talking about The Show. I heard it one Sunday sitting next to an ice cream shop and the song was just so adpt for that moment. Memorized the lyrics, went home to check it out.

Lenka just has this beat/ tune to her that make you happy when you listen to her. My girlfriend dubbed her the Ice Cream Song Girl becasue she says that you can just visualize swinging your head side to side, with an ice cream in you hand feel the delirious highs of being happy. And I might she she got it just right.

If you need a pick-me-up on a sad/ bad/ fucked-up day just pop Lenka in and swing your head side to side with her, ice cream optional.

You would think SingTel would have learnt some lessons from the first one. And yes this time around there are some new stuff that is supposedly to cater to a better queuing experience. But I don’t know, I still feel as fraustrated as the first launch.

So here’s my play by play of the launch…

The News
Once again new came out about one week before the launch. And once again, I was in a frenzy to reserve my slot. Something different this time, I had to put a $50 deposit (through credit card). Now this gave me the hope that maybe this time around they got it right. Few days later I checked the web site again and the launch day slot was greyed out, with fully booked on it. Again this gave me hope, perhaps just perhaps this time around…

The Day (get it, get it? :p)
Being sick didn’t help and I only got to ComCentre at about 6. Guess what? Horrors of horrors! ‘Cue B-grade horror movie soundtrack’ The queue was round the building again. Immediately I was like “oh boy, here we go again”

Station 1: The Queue
I must say the change the queue layout this time, the starting point is actually right next to the end point. We literally had to go round in circle(s) to get our 3G s. They even provided tentage in the outdoor area. The first station was changed quite a bit too. The first station was actually pretty smooth flowing an at the end of it was counters to verify your reservations. Improvement I thought (I would be proven wrong on this end).

At least this time around I came prepared; PSP, MacBook Air, the works! =p

Station 2
Verification was a pretty quick process as well. Just a quick scan of my printed email and that’s it. I was then given a colour wrist tag that was supposed to be a queue marker type thing (and as I found out later the color tags actually made a difference.)

This is also the station that started reminding me of last year’s launch. Started out moving off quiet quickly and then came 7:30pm and the queue just stop dead. I figure this was because the staff were busy with the launch or that it has finally hit maximum capacity. As it turns out I was stuck in the same position for a good 1hr.

Not fun at all!

But I did managed to get a glimpse of the launch via the plasma and live coverage that was provided. Nice touch.

I must say the props are pretty nice

I especially like this floor props think it’s a great idea and it looks great from the top.

Can’t wait too see the launch in action.
